    I am an avid fan of the book - it is truely the bible of programming for wow.

    My question is this - with the xpac coming out shortly and all the goodness that can be found in beta, I want to be sure that I'm not only making my code compatable with 3.0, but I want to take advantage of all the new features and such.

    I have seen how the achivements API is online now, but is there somewhere that I can find a comprehensive summary of whats new for wotlk as far as api calls and what we can do with them?

    I've looked through the new blizzard UI's but am looking for something more explanatory

    I plan to detail all of the changes to the UI (from both the broad topical approach, as well as the granular API documentation).  This means giving an overview of the new and altered systems, as well as making sure we have detailed API documentation for the new (and removed) functions provided in the client.  Where will this be on the website, I haven't decided yet :P

    For the time being, you may want to check out Iriel's stickies on the official UI & Macros forum. Though somewhat terse, they are definitely the most focused, patch-oriented list of changes out there at the moment. The Upcoming Changes thread is also a great place to discuss the differences, and it regularly sees responses directly from the "blues" (or at the very least, the "greens" ;) ). We'd also be happy to answer any particular questions you may have.
